The fresh produce company highlights major progress in renewable energy, waste reduction, packaging innovation, and community impact.
Vancouver, Canada, 25 November 2025 – Oppy has released the third edition of its annual sustainability report, titled Expect the World From Us, outlining the company’s continued progress across environmental responsibility, supply chain practices, and community-focused initiatives. The report reflects measurable advancement in key areas, including greenhouse gas reduction, water stewardship, food waste diversion, sustainable packaging, and support for people and communities throughout its global operations.
The 2025 sustainability report showcases expanded renewable energy usage, increased diversion of food waste, more responsible sourcing standards, and innovation in packaging that reduces environmental impact. The company also reinforced its science-based emissions targets, detailing a clear roadmap toward meaningful carbon reduction in the years ahead.
Sustainability lead Angela Chan highlighted the company’s forward momentum, noting that ongoing collaboration and long-term planning remain essential to creating measurable change. President and chief operating officer David Smith added that industry partnerships continue to play a key role in developing new technologies and more sustainable farming and distribution systems.
The company’s leadership in the fresh produce sector has also been acknowledged through its invitation to join the 2026 Leadership Circle of the Ethical Charter Implementation Program, recognizing a strong commitment to responsible labor practices across the supply chain.
Among the notable achievements outlined in the report, Oppy shared that 65 percent of the energy used in its office and warehouse facilities now comes from renewable sources. This shift represents a 17 percent increase over the previous year and prevented more than 200 metric tons of CO2e emissions. The company also announced the development of Canada’s first geothermal-powered greenhouse in partnership with Deep Earth Energy.
Oppy has also reduced plastic usage in citrus packaging by up to 20 percent and implemented advanced tracking systems to support packaging compliance programs across Canada and the United States. In food waste reduction efforts, more than 590 tonnes of organic waste were diverted in Vancouver, while Southern California operations achieved a 97 percent diversion rate, supporting the company’s zero-waste target for 2028.
The report additionally includes Oppy’s second modern slavery report, outlining expanded due diligence measures, supplier accountability requirements, and ethical protections for workers throughout the agricultural supply chain.
As a grower and distributor responsible for moving more than 50 million boxes of fresh produce each year, Oppy emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and its commitment to supporting farm communities worldwide. The company stated that transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement remain central to its sustainability strategy and long-term vision for the produce industry.
