Making a Collective and Cohesive Effort to Preach Sustainability in the Southeast

Cox Cleantech Accelerator, a coalition between Cox Enterprises, gener8tor, and the Georgia Cleantech Innovation Hub, has officially launched its inaugural cohort of cleantech startups, something which will focus on transforming sustainability in the Southeast.

According to certain reports, the stated cohort was finalized after a highly competitive selection process, and at the end, five companies tackling critical challenges across fleet electrification, financial compliance, industrial wastewater, and sustainable buildings, were selected.

Talking about the finalized cohort on a slightly deeper level, it includes 4Earth, a company building advanced resource recovery technology for industrial and critical infrastructure applications. 4Earth basically banks upon materials science, innovative water treatment processes, automation, and machine learning to plug into existing factories and plants, all for the purpose of enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

Next up, we have Accelerate Wind, who is best known for providing affordable energy to commercial buildings. This the company does through a wind turbine, which integrates with solar on the edges of roofs. You see. Accelerate’s patented spoiler design channels wind to the turbine more efficiently, and therefore, harnesses more energy within a smaller footprint.

Another company set to be a part of Cox Cleantech’s new cohort would be Flux Hybrids. Basically, Flux Hybrids designs electric powertrains that transform fleet vehicles into plug-in hybrids, maximizing efficiency and flexibility. The company’s proprietary systems make it possible for fleets to operate on electric power when charging is available, or transition to gas as needed.

Such a setup, like you can guess, treads up a long distance to deliver increased range, enhanced performance, and reduced operational costs.

“We are excited to support a new program focused on companies that are not only developing incredible cleantech innovations but also driving value for large-scale customers,” said Morgan Phillips, Atlanta Ventures lead at Cox Enterprises.

Then, there is Kara, a company responsible for creating an AI sustainability compliance platform which, on its part, is capable of transforming how investors and businesses manage sustainability risk.

More on that would reveal how Kara’s proprietary solution can streamline sustainability performance, automate compliance with SFDR, CSRD, EU Taxonomy, EDCI, and SB 253 & 261, as well as deliver actionable insights that turn sustainability from a regulatory burden into a strategic advantage. Now, with sustainability baked bright into the financial aspect, the technology is able to help the likes of asset managers, banks, and companies in achieving a more well-rounded performance.

Rounding up the list would be Joulea. Joulea basically enables building owners to obtain highly accurate energy assessments, optimize financial performance, and reduce carbon impact. This it is able to do through its AI solutions, drone technology, and deep expertise in building energy systems.

In case you weren’t aware, Cox Cleantech Accelerator is essentially a 12-week program, which offers a $100,000 worth of investment to 5 startups per cohort, conducting the exercise twice a year. Companies that participate in this program receive investment, mentorship from Cox business leaders, along with access to support from landing pilots and commercial agreements.

“Our region is home to nearly 300 global and regional headquarters and has been one of the largest recipients of cleantech manufacturing investment over the past several years. We are excited to plug some of the country’s most exciting startups into that ecosystem,” said Miguel Granier, managing director of the Cox Cleantech Accelerator.

Turning our attention towards the companies behind this accelerator, we begin from Cox Enterprises. Cox’s rise up the ranks stems from providing broadband, automotive, and media services. The company also supports various emerging technologies to drive the future of agriculture, renewable energy, healthtech, and public sector software.

Moving on to gener8tor, it is a global venture firm that supports startups, workers, employers, artists and musicians across race, place and gender. The company partners with companies, governments, universities, and non-profits to operate accelerator programs and conferences across more than 45 communities and 25 states.

Finally, we have Georgia Cleantech Innovation Hub, which would be a 501c3 public-private-academic partnership focused on conceiving a robust, inclusive cleantech economy that creates jobs in growth industries, commercializes climate change-themed technology, while simultaneously empowering people and communities throughout Georgia and the Southeast.
