Southwire has officially announced the results from its latest sustainability report. which sheds light upon the company’s commitment to its teams, communities, and to the wider environment. According to certain reports, the stated report presents the company’s most substantial impacts on five core tenets of sustainability: Growing Green, Living Well, Giving Back, Doing Right, and Building Worth. Talk about the whole value proposition on a slightly deeper level, we begin from the tenet of Living Well: Safety Achievements. You see, in 2023, the company achieved a total recordable injury rate (TRIR) of 0.77, a historical best performance and ahead of its target of 0.8. This it achieved on the back of a strong investment in proactive safety culture, best-in-class risk prevention processes and tools, as well as an industry-leading workforce. Next up, we have the objective of Doing Right: Ethisphere Achievement. In this regard, it must be mentioned how the company achieved recognition on World’s Most Ethical Companies list, again reaching the milestone one year ahead of its original target. Anyway, by doing so, Southwire has now joined a competitive group of 136 companies worldwide. Making the given achievement even more valuable, though, is the fact it is based on an intensive review process of each organization’s reputation and ethical practices. As for how the company clocked this particular objective, the answer would include its major investment in a robust Ethics & Compliance program, and in its ONE Southwire culture.
“The promise of an all-electric future in North America is here – a movement toward an electrified economy that leverages renewable sources of power to meet society’s evolving energy needs,” said Rich Stinson, President and CEO of Southwire. “At Southwire, we are taking a leadership position to ensure we are part of the conversation and the solution toward a sustainable, electrified future.”
Moving on to Southwire’s goal attached with Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Statement, it effectively documents the way company’s 2023 Sustainability report expands upon its first ever public climate risk report in alignment with the TCFD framework. This included climate-related risks and opportunities that are material to Southwire, along with both the factors’ impact on the organization’s business strategy.
Apart from the overarching 2023 Southwire Sustainability Report, Southwire also published its 2023 Sustainability Fact Sheet, which provides an overview of the company’s progress towards our 2023 goals and initiatives.
Founded in 1950, Southwire’s rise up the ranks stems from being one of North America’s largest wire and cable producers and an emerging influence in many important electrical markets. At present, the company, as well as its subsidiaries, is involved in manufacturing building wire and cable, utility products, metal-clad cable, portable and electronic cord products, OEM wire products and engineered products. Beyond that, the company is also known for supplying assembled products, contractor equipment, electrical components, hand tools and jobsite power, and lighting solutions, a portfolio that it also packages with variety of field and support services to customers around the world.
“We are excited to announce the progress we’ve made towards our sustainability goals, especially the honor of being recognized by Ethisphere as one of its World’s Most Ethical Companies for 2024,” said Burt Fealing, EVP, General Counsel and Chief Sustainability Officer at Southwire. “These initiatives reflect the hard work of our team members as they continue to lead with purpose and do business the right way.”
